Cain leads classic

Marcus Cain holds the outright lead after the first round of the Toyota Southern Classic at Woolooware Golf Club. Cain carded a six-under round of 64, and sits one stroke clear of a group on five under. Starting on the back nine, Cain began steadily making the turn at one under-par. But birdies on one and two seemed to get the former Australasian Tour winner into the groove, picking up strokes on the last five holes to take the outright lead. A host of players are tied just one back from Cain including the reigning PGA National Trainee Champion Julian Reynolds (NSW). Reynolds created history when he became the first trainee professional to win back to back national titles. Also tied at five under is Andrew Bonhomme (QLD), Graham Sheppard (QLD), Craig Jones (QLD) and Tim Wise (VIC). British Open Qualifier Ewan Porter used his local knowledge with success opening with a four-under round of 66. Porter is in a tie for seventh position, two behind leader Cain. Defending champion Marc Leishman struggled on day one recording a one under-par 69 to be in a share of 30th.
