Seventeen year old Cameron Davis from Roseville and Monash Golf Clubs has claimed his first major amateur title by winning the 2012 China Open Amateur. Davis who was sent by Jack Newton Junior Golf to compete in the event finished 9 under over the four rounds to win by four shots. Cameron started the event with a blistering round of 5 under par, 67. Cameron held a 2 shot lead after the 1st round and back up his stellar first round with a 1 under 71 in the 2nd round, even par 72 in the 3rd round and finished off with the 2nd best round of the day, a final round 3 under 69. Cameron lead from start to finish and never looked seriously challenged as he held a 6 shot lead with 9 holes to play. A bogey free 2 under back 9 helped Cameron clinch his first major title. A current NSW Squad member, Cameron has been working hard on his game and his hard work has paid off with a fantastic win over a quality field. Fellow JNJG member Dylan Perry backed up his 8th place at the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championships with a tied 3rd place at the China Amateur Open. Dlyan did his best to claw back the 6 shot deficit that he found himself in after a first round 73, but backed that up with rounds of 70, 70 and 71 to solidfy his place near the top of the leaderboard. Congratulations to Cameron and Dylan on a fantastic 2 weeks in China at the Aaron Baddeley International Championships and the China Amateur Open. For more detailed information go to www.jnjg.com.au
