Phoenix Campbell (Huntingdale) has produced a magnificent even par 71 in difficult conditions at Portsea Golf Club to take a one-shot lead in the boys section going into the final round tomorrow of the Mornington Peninsula Junior Open.

Campbell fired four birdies to give him the overnight lead over The National’s Jack Harrison. A further shot behind Harrison is Curlewis’ Matthew McFarlane. McFarlane sits in outright third and is well within striking distance as the players head to Sorrento in the morning.

Ashni Solanki (Victoria) is poised at the top of the girls leaderboard after her one over par 73 this morning. Solanki’s round was highlighted by four birdies and an eagle on the par 5 4th hole. Solanki is one shot ahead of Metropolitan’s Jeneath Wong who finished her day with 73. In third position is Royal Melbourne’s Imogen Jones after her round of 80.

Meanwhile, in the nett section Matthew McFarlane leads the way with his round of 68 bettering his handicap by 3 shots. A trio of players including Ashni Solanki, Fraser Anderson and Jarvis Biffin sit one shot in arrears of the Curlewis member.

Players head to Sorrento tomorrow and with an 8:30 with a shotgun start.
