Casey Wild, The 2016 Country Women’s Champion

Casey Wild (Wodonga) has secured the 2016 Victorian Women’s Country Championship after defeating Jo Flaherty 3&1 in this morning’s 18 hole final at Rich River Golf Club Resort. Wild this week has now achieved the rare feat of winning the Betty Kernot trophy outright & the Country Championship title after going through the match play undefeated. This is the second year in a row for this to happen but hasn’t then been seen since 2011, won last year by Jessica Pickwick, who this year bowed out after her first round match yesterday.

Wild was one up at the turn then going to dormie 3 up at 15, an impressive chip in from Flaherty quickly changed that to dormie 2 up for Wild, who then moved on to win the 17th hole to seal the championship. Unfortunately for Flaherty, this is the third year running she has finished the event with the runner-up title but will be hoping it is a case of ‘fourth time lucky’ when the title moves to Cobram Barooga Golf Club in 2017.

Golf Victoria would like to extend sincere thanks to Rich River Golf Club Resort for staging this year’s Country Championships. The Rich River ladies committee, members, volunteers and club and ground staff are to be commended on their superb hospitality.
