The final round of the 2017 Alpine Senior Masters has concluded this afternoon with a record field of 114 senior golfers enjoying idyllic conditions.

It was a tight affair in the women’s gross championship, with Sue Dawes (Yarrawonga) storming home to win via a three-way countback from overnight leader Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) & Wodonga’s Judy Langford.

Jenny Long (Box Hill) led from wire to wire to win the women’s nett championship, backing up her first round 34 points with another 34-point effort to win by two from Zdenka Better (Warragul) who finished with 66 stableford points.

It was a similar affair in the men’s championship, with both the gross & nett winners leading from start to finish. Rutherglen’s Bill Black took out the nett championship with a two round nett total of 141. Torquay’s Ross Bottomley finished second just one shot adrift on 142.

Gordon Claney recorded a win in the gross event by 6 shots from Ian Frost (Rich River). Claney fired back to back rounds of one under par 71 for a two-round total of 142.

The next event on the senior calendar is the Mornington Peninsula Senior Amateur 27 – 28 March.
