The annual Championships of North Ryde Golf Club are currently underway, with the final round to be held on Sunday, 25th October 2015.
The Championships are the premier event on the Club’s golfing calendar and for the first time in the Club's history, the final round of the Men’s, Ladies and Junior Championships will be played together.
The Club’s Championships involve eight open events – four grades for male members and four for lady members. Each grade is based on a handicap range, with the best scratch score in each grade over the four rounds, being declared the winner. Two further championships are held for Junior Boys and Junior Girls of the Club under 18 years of age.
The Championships follow the structure used for most professional tournaments – four rounds of 18 holes of stroke play. Like most professional events there is a cut after the second round, with players with the leading scores in each grade, qualifying to play the final 36 holes.
North Ryde is believed to be one of the first golf clubs in Sydney to hold the final round of all Championship events together.
Chairman of Golf NSW, Chris Allen said: “We congratulate North Ryde Golf Club for coming up with a great new concept for their Championships. It not only gives equal recognition to the Men’s and Ladies Championships, but also acknowledges the importance of the Championship events for all the Club’s handicap grades. We would encourage other golf clubs in NSW, to follow North Ryde’s lead and introduce a similar format.”
Following completion of the first two rounds of the Championships, two of the Club’s junior members are leading Men’s A Grade. Carter Nepia leads Frazer Campbell by one shot. Morag Irons leads the Ladies Division 1 by 7 shots from Fiona Montgomery.
