Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel from South Africa will return to Western Australia to contest the Perth International from 23 to 26 October 2014.
With five top-ten finishes on the PGA TOUR and three on the European Tour already this season, Schwartzel will be aiming for a big finish to his year when he plays Lake Karrinyup Country Club again.
He has nine European Tour titles to his name and finished 2013 with a successful defence of the Alfred Dunhill Championship after winning the 2012 event by a staggering 12 shots.
Recognised as having one of the finest swings in the game, the 30-year-old’s career highlight remains his 2011 Masters victory by two strokes over Adam Scott and Jason Day.
Schwartzel played in the inaugural Perth International in 2012 and is looking to make a strong impact this year.
“I really enjoyed my experience in Perth two years ago but having played the course and experienced the conditions I’m looking forward to a strong finish at the tournament in October,” he said.
“I’m playing well this year but am hungry for a win after a few close calls and I’m looking forward to returning to Perth.”
Schwartzel becomes the third major Champion to be included in this year’s field along with Jason Dufner (2013 US PGA) and Geoff Ogilvy (2006 US Open). They will be joined in the field by highly talented Frenchman Victor Dubuisson; five-time European Tour winner Brett Rumford; defending champion Jin Jeong, and Australian Steven Bowditch who won his maiden PGA TOUR title in April at the Texas Open. Wade Ormsby is another addition to the field and on the back of his best ever year on the European Tour, the Perth International will be a great opportunity for him to play his way in to the Final Series on the Race to Dubai.
Lake Karrinyup Country Club is widely acknowledged as Western Australia’s premier private golf club and has been regularly rated as one of the top ten golf courses in Australia.
Tickets for the Perth International start from $22 and are available from Ticketmaster. Children under 16 will gain free entry with a paying adult.
The Perth International, now in its third year is owned and promoted by IMG. The event, is proudly supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism WA, and is the only Australian tournament co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA TOUR of Australasia.
