After visiting the Whyalla Golf Club with her father, Doug, Charlie was instantly taken with the sport. Her enrolment to the Whyalla MyGolf program followed soon after.

Charli has now been with the program for 11 months and can’t get enough of the game. She attends her MyGolf session every week, often making the effort to attend an extra lesson when she can.

With inspiration from her golfing idol Jason Day and after extensive practice, Charli has begun to participate in the par three junior competitions that are held at Whyalla each month.

This year she even made it to the SA primary schools golf event (formally named SAPSASA) held in Adelaide. Although she didn’t make the main cut, Charli was invited to play the second day and improved by seventeen shots!

Charli then attended the Whyalla Junior Open, finishing with equal second in the nine-hole competition, and last month played the Stirling North 18-hole junior event, becoming junior girls champion and receiving an achievement award on the day.

‘Charli’s golf skills are improving all the time, assisted by some of the Whyalla Golf Club’s trained Community Instructors,’ Whyalla MyGolf co-ordinator, Allan Slater said.

‘Charli is polite, loves golf, likes meeting lots of new people from other schools, encourages her younger brother to play golf, and listens to all her coaches and the A-graders who help with coaching tips.

She already drives as far as many of the women at the Whyalla Golf Club… copying Jason Day, of course,’ Allan said.

Congratulations on your achievements Charli. The MyGolf team are proud of your passion and dedication to the game.

Keep up the great work!
