Charnley and Harley lead Melbourne Senior Classic

Perfect spring weather greeted 60 men and 9 women for the first round of the Melbourne Senior Classic today at Spring Valley. The still conditions were perfect for low scoring.

Spring Valley & Woodlands come together each year to provide senior golfers with an opportunity to play on an impressive Sandbelt layout.

Rossdale’s Geoff Charnley produced an impressive 2 under the card 69 to be the leader after day 1. After an even front nine Charnley shined having 3 birdies on 10, 11 and 12 and finished 2 under on the back nine. The current Order of Merit leader Ian McCleary is hot on his tail shooting a steady 71 carding just 2 bogies and 2 birdies to level out his round.

Mark Nelson from Heidelberg off a handicap of 8 shot a magnificent 73 off the stick, nett 65 to lead the Nett section by 3 shots over Kooringal’s Ian McCleary with nett 68

Heather Harley a regular in the Golf Australia Victorian Senior events is currently leading the Scratch Stableford section with 27 points. Geelong resident Kerrin Biddle is one back at 26 points. In the women’s stableford section Rossdale’s Suzanne Ferguson is leading by 2 with 37 points over Heather Harley.
