Geoff Charnley (Rossdale) and Deborah Rix (Cobden) have taken out their respective Warrnambool Senior Amateur titles for 2018.

Charnely held onto his overnight lead to take the victory by three shots over Kingston Heath’s Gordon Claney.

Charnley finished with 146 for the two rounds with his win also seeing him take the lead in the 2018 Doug Bachli Trophy rankings.

Charnley now leads by 14 points over Ian McCleary going into the final competition at Port Fairy to be played over the next two days.

A victory for either player at Port Fairy will ensure they be crowned the champion for 2018.

In the nett section, Craig Lonsdale (Keysborough) finished with 141 for the two rounds, highlighted by a magnificent 69 in today’s round.

Stephen Day (Ballarat) couldn’t continue his first-round form, finishing with 146 and claiming outright second.

Deborah Rix (Cobden) continued her strong form from yesterday, finishing with 56 points for the two days.

Rix finished seven shots ahead of Kerrin Biddle (Queens Park) who finished outright runner-up.

Sue Rea used her local knowledge to her advantage, winning the overall stableford section.

The Warrnambool member was consistent over her two rounds with 28 and 31 for a total of 59. Fellow Warrnambool member Diana Robinson was runner-up as she closed out her tournament with a total of 55.

Players will head to Port Fairy tomorrow to continue their senior tour.

Golf Australia would like to thank Warrnambool Golf Club for their hospitality and for presenting the course in outstanding condition over the two days.
