Chiu & Simpson claim 2 Day Winter Classic

The Titleist 2 Day Winter Classic was held at Keperra Country Golf Club on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th July. Chilly mornings greeted 128 players with the conditions warming during the day.

Kaito Chiu (Brisbane) claimed the boys’ title with rounds of 73-73 to edge out round 1 leaders Ben Stieler (Brookwater) and Manaz Bais (Hills) by one shot, finishing in equal second. Bhavneet Sohal (Hills) made a terrific comeback from an opening 82 for a second round 69 to take out third place.

Isabelle Simpson (Indooroopilly) returned scores of 82-75 to claim the girls’ title by five shots over Blackwater’s Rae Weiki with rounds of 85-77. Taylor Kay (Emerald) was a further two shots back with a 36-hole total of 164.

In the 9-hole competition, Yutaro Matsushita (Windaroo Lakes) maintained his overnight lead to win the event with rounds of 41-40. The overall girls champion was won by Riko Danjo (Emerald) with rounds of 39-47, for a 18-hole total of 86.

Players were ecstatic with the opportunity to chat, take photos with, and receive autographs.
