Christine McKibben has been elected as President of one of Tasmania s foremost membership golf clubs. Tasmania is a club steeped in tradition and has an enviable track record in competitive golf in the State. McKibben s election is a reflection of the new open and innovative character of the club. Golf clubs around Australia are struggling and we must be able to respond to the changing demographics and lifestyles of today to ensure that this great sport stays healthy, said McKibben. McKibben, a successful business woman in Tasmania and a fanatical 16 handicapper, has been an active committee member for a number of years. At Tasmania we have already introduced 6-hole modified golf for beginners and we have even made the course more accessible to social players, added McKibben. McKibben s first achievement was that of winning member s confidence and being the first woman elected as Tasmania Golf Club President. McKibben also brings a freshness to the club in a year where it will showcase the magnificent golf course at Barilla Bay. On February 1 Tasmania Golf Club will conduct its very successful Pro-Am, the premier pro-am event in Tasmania attracting professionals from all over Australia. The club will also host Golf Australia s Men’sInterstate Teams Matches from April 30-May 3. This event will showcase the nation s leading amateurs representing their States as they play off against each other over four days under match play conditions. It has been seven long years since this event was last held in Tasmania and this event is one of the stepping stones for Australia s up and coming amateurs.
