Claney & Pascoe Cruise to Victory

Pleasant early morning conditions greeted the field at today’s final round of the 2014 Moyne Senior Classic at the beautiful Port Fairy Golf Club. The one hundred and sixteen strong field enjoyed favorable conditions over the two days with the strong coastal winds which often sweep across the spectacular layout relatively benign over the duration of the event.

Gordon Claney of Kingston Heath fired a final round level par 72 to match his efforts on the first day to finish with a total of 144 to take home this year’s title making Gordon a back to back winner of this prestigious event.

Gordon’s exceptional play saw him take victory by seven shots over Mark Brasher representing The Kew who fired a classy 73 on day two to push his way into second place with Gary Hunt of Cobram-Barooga finishing third on a countback.

Following a jammed pack leader board after the opening round in the nett section, Gary House of Sanctuary Lakes fired a brilliant nett score of 69 on day two to go with his nett score of 74 on day one to finish with a total score of 143 nett. House built the foundations of his victory on day two, after a close encounter with a brown snake on day one to scrape home on a countback from Kerry Boehm of Rossdale who also finished the event with a 69 nett in today’s final round & could consider himself a little unlucky to miss out on the major nett prize by the slimmest of margins. Paul Bray of The Metropolitan completed the top three with a nett score of 144 c/b.

Meanwhile in the women’s component, Helen Pascoe of Buninyong continued her strong day one form to fire an 80 in today’s final round to finish with a total score of 159 taking the title from Julie Taylor of Anglesea who claimed top honours in the nett component of the event with a total nett score of 153.

Roslyn Black of Rutherglen took home overall honours in the stableford event with a combined 64 stableford points over the two rounds.

The Moyne Senior Classic wraps up what’s been a fantastic year on the 2014 Senior calendar. The 2015 Doug Bachli Trophy will kick off next week at the Sorrento Senior Amateur on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula on Thursday 4 December- Friday 5 December.
