Tasmania s club teams championship, the James Boag Claremont Shield, tees off at the Kingston Beach Golf Club Saturday afternoon. Thirteen teams of four competitors representing division one and two pennant clubs from around the State will vie for the prestigious trophy. Mowbray Golf Club will be keen to defend their title won last year at the Devonport Golf Club. The Mowbray team includes Curt Mathews, James Pyke, Shayne Walker and former State team member John Cassidy. I would also recommend keeping a close eye on Tasmania Golf Club’s Stuart Bonnitcha, Richard Kube, Andrew Phillips and Mark Schulze. The quartet s collective handicap is that of plus eight with all four competitors play off a handicap of plus two. Other clubs expected to perform well include local members Royal Hobart, Riverside, Launceston and host club Kingston Beach. The tournament also incorporates a handicap section, where teams compete for the Eric Bourke Memorial Trophy. The event format dictates that competitors participate in eighteen holes of foursomes on Saturday afternoon followed by 36-holes of singles on Sunday.
