Classic / Salver – Day Two Update

Golf SA Amateur Classic New South Wales state representative Brett Drewitt has shot to the top of the leaderboard at the 2011 Golf SA Amateur Classic following a course record 7-under par 64 at Glenelg Golf Club. After two rounds Drewitt (pictured) sits at 8-under par (134), four shots clear of first round leader Daniel Bringolf and defending champion Brad Moules. In today&aposs second round, Bringolf carded a steady even par 71 while Moules continued his excellent run of recent form at Glenelg with a 3-under par round of 68, leaving both players at 4-under par 138. Sean Underwood (67), Geoff Drakeford 71 and Ryan Peake 69 sit a further two shots back on 2-under par 140. Day two of the Classic belonged to Drewitt however, who capitalised on a blistering start in beating Glenelg&aposs old course record by a shot. The 2010 Queensland Amateur Champion birdied five of his first six holes to make the turn in 5-under par 31. A steady back nine, which was spoilt only by a solitary bogey on the par-four tenth, was completed with a second consecutive eagle on the par five 18th hole. Drewitt&aposs course record betters the previous mark of 65 set by Brad Moules in last year&aposs Classic at Glenelg. The other notable round of the day belonged to 2011 SA Amateur runner-up Chris Austin (Tea Tree Gully) who himself was only a shot shy of joining Drewitt in Glenelg&aposs record books. Starting on the 10th tee, Austin recorded three birdies on the back nine and a further three after the turn in a bogey free 6-under par round of 65, leaving him well in the mix at 1-under par 141. In total 37 men will line up for tomorrow&aposs third round with the cut being made at 150 (+8). Rene Erichsen Salver Royal Adelaide&aposs Sarah King and Kingston Heath&aposs Grace Lennon share the half way lead at the 2011 Rene Erichsen Salver after today&aposs second round at Glenelg Golf Club. King, who last month won the Golf SA Women&aposs Amateur Championship carded a solid second round even -par 74 while Lennon was again steady in carding a second consecutive round of 4-over par 78. Both players sit on 8-over par 156, a shot clear of Kooyonga&aposs Ebony Heard (79, 78, 157) with Kingston Heath&aposs Tilly Poulsen (83, 75, 158) a further shot back. King&aposs even par round was the lowest of the day, and featured two birdies and two bogeys. Despite shooting a relatively disappointing 4-over par 78 in today&aposs second round, Kooyonga&aposs Ebony Heard hit the shot of the tournament to date to record a rare albatross 2 on the par-5 8th hole.
