Jarrod Lyle is running out of time to best use his medical exemption on the US PGA Tour.
Lyle, 33, is allowed to play 20 events this season, picking up from the money position he had when a battle to beat cancer forced him from the Tour in 2012.
That means the affable Victorian needs to make approximately $US325,000 before season’s end to retain his card.
But even should that mark be achieved, it would need to be soon for Lyle to take full advantage.
Lyle finished T31 and T42 in his first two starts back in October last year, earning him $53,795 and setting him on track.
But seven consecutive missed cuts – three of which came despite sub-par scores – have left him in a growing race against time.
Lyle is hopeful that of at least another 10 starts (or more with invitations), but even if he reaches the cut-off figure, he will only be exempt for the remainder of this season.
This effectively means that Lyle must finish in the top 125, as normal, by the end of the Wyndham Championship on August 23.
That date could extend through September should Lyle qualify for the lucrative FedEx Cup, but he’s ranked just 191st presently and would need to be in the top 125 before the playoffs begin at The Barclays in the last week of August.
