Close Finish at Commonwealth

83 competitors from throughout Victoria & interstate teed it up in this years’ edition of the Commonwealth Senior Amateur, forming the third event of the ‘August Senior Sand Belt' series.

A sunny start to the morning progressively changed in typical Melbourne fashion, with the afternoon overcast and chilly, following suit from the last few days’ weather. This created a challenge for all who took to the fairways of the par 73 layout, which again was presented in beautiful condition.

In the end it was hot favourite Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) who won his second event for the week after firing the round of the day 73. Gordon finished 3 shots ahead of Trafalgar member Jeff Hasthorpe.

The handicap section honours were taken out by a New South Welshman contingent, in first place Rowan Easterbrook (Oatlands) with a nett 70 (from a 4 handicap), narrowly defeating Andrew Pritchard-Davies (Monash) with a nett 71 (from a 12 handicap).

The senior group have a rest day tomorrow before making their way to Victoria Golf Club Friday to finish off the first of two weeks high quality golf.
