Last week saw the third event of the six-event China LPGA tour being played with the Orient Ningbo Championship held from 29-31 July. Four ALPG Members made the trip to China for this event, all making an impact on the leaderboard.

rnAfter the first round, Danielle Bowers (nee Montgomery) held a share of the lead with an opening round of 2-under par 70. Afterwards she said, “I was a little worried because the last six months I have just been practicing in Australia. I was a bit apprehensive about how my competitive skills were going to be, but it all went well.”

rnSusie Mathews was also well placed after the first round in a tie for 4th on 71 just one-shot behind the leaders. Kate Combes was a further shot back in a tie for 7th while Nicole Montgomery was also well placed on 73 in a tie for 11th.

rnBowers (70-73), and Mathews (71-73) were both in the hunt going into the final round in 2nd and tied 3rd respectively. However, neither player could go as low as eventual winner, Chinese native Li Wei who fired a final round 4-under par 68, to finish at 4-under for the tournament, 3-shots ahead of Mathews (71) and Thailand’s Tiranan Yoopan.

rnBowers finished in a tie for 5th after a final round 75, while Montgomery (72) ended up in a tie for 13th with Combes in a tie for 15th.

rnThis week sees the China LPGA Tour – Orient Wenzhou Yangyi Championship being played.
