Club Teams Championship News Wrap – 2017

A solid field of eager junior golfers assembled this morning at The National Golf Club at Long Island in chase for this year’s Stuart Appleby Club Teams title. The weather was gloomy and a little cool early on but eventually the sun broke through to revel perfect playing conditions.
First played in 2005, the event uses a par format, with the aggregate of the 3 best scores from the team of 4 players making up the overall team score. Victoria Golf Club was looking to make it three in a row, but they finished tied third with a +5 team total.
Mornington Golf Club took home the 2017 honours with a barnstorming +11 tally. Daniel Vince lead from the front today with a stellar individual round of +7 and was backed up Gavin O’Reilly who signed for +4. Flynn O’Reilly and Harry Dobson also had solid rounds for the victorious team.
Not only did Mornington take home top honours, but they also walked away with the runner-up prize with the team comprising of Aiden McDonagh, Jackson Brown, Cooper Marriott and Bradley McLean.
20 teams from across Victoria were represented in the event today who ranged in handicap from scratch to mid 30’s. All players enjoyed the National Golf Club layout at Long Island and we thank the host club for preparing the course in such great condition.
