Coats takes title at Barwon Heads

Chris Coats prevailed in some of the toughest conditions seen at Barwon Heads Golf Club all year to take the inaugural Australian Men&aposs Senior Match Play crown. After a vigorous week of golf on Victoria&aposs Bellarine Peninsula, Coats emerged victorious after downing local Phil Wood in Friday&aposs final 3&2. Depsite the wet and windy conditions, many pars and birdies were posted in a high standard match. The players remained even through the early stages before Coats opened up a gap through the turn. The Queenslander maintained his composure and holed a miracle putt from off the 16th green to seal victory and in turn, the 2007 Australian Men&aposs Senior Match Play title. Golf Australia would like to thank Barwon Heads Golf Club for their generous hospitality once more. In their centenary year, the club has hosted three major National Events and the course has been nothing short of immaculate on every occasion. Golf Australia would also like to thank the competitors that played throughout the week and congratulate Chris Coats on becoming the inaugural Australian Men&aposs Senior match Play Champion.
