Coffey scrapes in a win

Tim Coffey (Traralgon) has claimed the Victorian Men’s Sand Greens title for 2014 by one shot today at the Grampians Golf Club, Dunkeld.

‘The key to my victory was the putter” said Coffey. “I really didn’t miss too many outside of ten feet over the two rounds and that’s what got me over the line in end” said Coffey.

Coffey finished on a two round total score of 144 one shot clear of Nathan Schneider (Beechworth)  in second place with a two round total of 145.

Finishing in third place with a two round total score of 146 was Tim Spillman (Parklands).

Best overall nett winner went to Henk Kersten (Bannockburn) on a count back with a total nett score of 136 over the two rounds.

All volunteers at the Grampians including kitchen staff, BBQ operators, course spotters, and scrapers should be congratulated for their efforts over the weekend.

The Grampians, which last hosted this title back in 1993, was presented in superb condition despite some inclement weather at the early stages of the tournament. The sun sneaked out for round 2 which was a relief for the players.

All the competitors could not speak highly enough about the condition of the course, the sand greens in particular received fantastic reviews.

Golf Victoria looks forward to another successful event in 2015, with the event to be staged just south of Bendigo at Quarrey Hill Golf Club on the 4-5 July 2015.
