Coltman Cups goes to South Western & Mornington Peninsula

It took South Western 10 years to regain the Division 1 title of the Women’s Country Team Matches. It was a nail-biting finish for them. Despite their convincing win over Goulburn Valley they had to wait for the result between Bendigo and East Gippsland. As these teams managed to draw their contest it gave South Western a precious half a contest point margin over them allowing them to claim the Cup.

In the meantime in Division 2, the Mornington Peninsula District continued climbing the Country Teams ladder to regain a spot in Division 1. After leaving the competition for a year in 2011, the team started their way back from Division 3 in 2012 – which they won. Making the most of their promotion to Division 2, they arrived at the final round with a half contest point advantage over Western and Ballarat – teams that also performed very well this season. However, a convincing win over Western gave them the title and placed them back in the top division.

Not so lucky teams were Goulburn Valley and Dalhousie who will be relegated to Division 2 and 3 respectively in 2014.

2013 is the 80th anniversary of the start of the Women’s Country Teams Matches. The competition will continue strongly and in 2014 these visitors to Melbourne will enjoy a great variety of venues for their contests. The competition will take place from Monday 25 to Wednesday 27 August at Huntingdale, Kingswood, Settlers Run, Long Island, Victoria and Peninsula Golf Clubs.
