Commonwealth & Gisborne headline Pennant Finals – Full Summaries

The 2014 Pennant season came to a climax yesterday with some outstanding golf being played across multiple divisions at four host venues. Commonwealth and Gisborne Golf Clubs were just two of ten clubs to capitalise on their opportunity to win multiple flags with Commonwealth winning both the Men’s Division 1 and Colts Division 1, whilst Gisborne were victorious in securing the Men’s Division 4 and Women’s Division 5 flags.

The ladies from Metropolitan G.C were also a big story of the final day, winning back-to-back Women’s Division 1 titles and their 12th overall in club history. Facing the young line-up of Victoria G.C, the defending champions from Metro which included world no. 5 amateur Su-Hyun Oh and State Women’s Captain Jo Charlton displayed their class across the board, winning 6-1 over their gallant counterparts who fought hard all day and should again challenge in 2015.

For the Commonwealth Men, the Division 1 flag is their first since 2009 and 12th overall. Boasting extraordinary team depth including three State Men’s players that won the Interstate Series in Canberra a fortnight ago, Commonwealth, despite entering the contest undefeated were strongly tested by the Metropolitan Men who featured Australian no.1 amateur Todd Sinnott.

In its 115th Golf Victoria Pennant season that involved close to 800 players, 24 out of the 46 competing clubs were represented in finals across six Men’s divisions, five Women’s divisions and six Colts divisions. As part of Golf Victoria’s ongoing policy of simultaneously staging Men’s, Women’s and Colts finals, contests were played at four host venues in Kingston Heath, Woodlands, Green Acres and Rosanna Golf Clubs.
