Confident Cassie shares lead in Japan

Cassie Porter has pulled off a birdie blitz to take a share of the lead heading into the final round of the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup, in Japan today.

Among the seven Australians competing at the Chukyo Golf Club, Nagoya, Porter is the best placed after a brilliant five-under-par 67 elevated the Queenslander into the top spot.

Porter, 16, shares the lead with overnight leader Siwoo Chung of Korea at eight under.

“I’m super excited to get into it tomorrow and make some good birdies early on to set the pace,” said Porter.

“I felt a lot more confident within myself today which definitely helps.

“Everyone in the team gets along really well and we have some good vibes on and of course. It’s always an honour to rep the green and gold.”

West Australian products Kirsten Rudgeley and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard head into the final round in a share for twelfth and 23rd respectively.

Of the boys, Royal Fremantle’s Hayden Hopewell is the best placed with rounds of 68-72-67 (-6) for a share of 13th.

Australian Junior champion Elvis Smylie carded back-to-back 70s to move back to even, while Jye Pickin and Josh Greer are T38 and T45 respectively.
