Cooke climbs Perth leaderboard

American Bo Van Pelt and Australian Peter Cooke were the big movers during the second morning of the ISPS Handa Perth International. Van Pelt, the world number 24, shot a five-under par 67 at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club to move to seven under for the tournament. Beginning on the back nine, Van Pelt was on the offensive early in his round, with birdies at the 11th, 14th and 15th taking him to within two shots of the leaders. He continued his strong form on the run home, with an eagle and two birdies moving him level with overnight leaders Michael Hendry and Alejandro Canizares. Early birdies in their rounds, however, handed Hendry and Canizares the lead once more. Cooke, meanwhile, moved to within two shots of the leaders with a brilliant six-under-par 66 taking the South Australian to five under. Paul Casey began well, with the 35-year-old – who reached a career-high ranking of number three in May 2009 – birdying two of his first six holes to move into a share of the lead. But from there the brakes were applied and the Englishman struck trouble after the turn, a double bogey at his 11th hole followed by dropped shots at 12 and 14. American Jason Dufner and South African Charl Schwartzel are in action during the afternoon.
