Country Week day 2 wrap up

The Men’s & Women’s Country Week Teams Matches continued today at Woodlands, Cranbourne and Spring Valley Golf Clubs. 

Woodlands was presented in pristine condition and played host to the Men’s Shield (Division 1) and Women’s Division 1 matches.

 In the morning, Ballarat defeated Western 6-1 in their contest in the Men’s Shield despite four matches going the distance and Goulburn Murray recorded a 5-2 victory over South Western.

The Golf Central Vic ladies recorded their first victory with a 5-2 win over 2017 Women’s Division 1 champions Goulburn Murray and Golf Peninsula Vic proved their quality with a 7-0 whitewash over Ballarat.

Play resumed for round 4 in the afternoon and the Men’s Shield contests saw Golf Peninsula Vic narrowly defeat South Western 4-3 and Goulburn Murray proved too strong for reigning champions Ballarat with a 4.5-2.5 victory.

Goulburn Murray, led by undefeated number one player Kyle Michel, now sit atop the ladder by a mere halved match ahead of Golf Peninsula Vic.

In Women’s Division 1, North Eastern have secured the title after clinching a 4-3 victory over Golf Peninsula Vic in round 4.

Goulburn Murray recorded their first win by defeating Ballarat 5-2 and should now be safe from relegation. 

Across at Cranbourne Golf Club, it was a close round 3 battle in both Men’s Plate contests, both going down to the wire with the final margin being only one match.

Both West and East Gippsland teams took victory from their opponents North Eastern and Golf Central Victoria respectively with a score of 4 matches to 3.

It was a carbon copy of these men’s results in the Women’s Division 2 match off the 1sttee, the Gippsland showdown between teams from East and West fell the way of the East 4 matches to 3.

The remaining contest saw South Western defeat Western 6 matches to 1.

In the afternoon, North Eastern put their first win of the week on the board in the men’s section, defeating Golf Central Victoria by a 4 to 3 margin, while Murray Darling and West Gippsland shared the first halved contest for the Division.

Dalhousie and South Gippsland were the first match of women’s matches in for the afternoon, with Dalhousie posting a 5 to 2 victory.

South Western claimed the last win of the day, 4 to 3 over East Gippsland, rounding out the second day of play.  

Men’s Plate and Women’s Division 2 will move to Patterson River for the last rounds tomorrow morning.

The final day of the Men’s Bowl and Women’s Division 3 moves to Rossdale with South Gippsland and Murray Darling best placed to win the respective men’s and women’s competitions and earn promotion to the Men’s Plate and into Women’s Division 2 for the 2019 competition.

Murray Darling remain unbeaten going into their final round clash with Wimmera in Women’s Division 3 and are almost assured of taking the title.

Murray Darling accounted for West Gippsland by 5.5 matches to 1.5 while Wimmera outlasted Northern 5/2 in round two contests played at Spring Valley today.  

Wimmera must defeat Murray Darling by a minimum margin of 5.5 matches to 1.5 to cause an upset final outcome.

The Men’s Bowl will see a final day meeting between unbeaten South Gippsland and second placed Dalhousie.

South Gippsland virtually sealed the title with a 5.5 to 1.5 match win over Kara Kara during this afternoon’s clash at Spring Valley and have won a staggering 18 and a half matches from a possible 21 played to date.
