Jan Crichton (Killara) and John Betland (Forbes) have held onto their overnight leads to take out the 2019 NSW Sand & Grass Greens Championship at Forbes GC and Grenfell CC. The Betland brothers made it a family affair with John shooting a one-over-par, 35 points to match his brother, Steve, on the day to solidify his three shot lead into the Championship win. Crichton had a contrasting round to her first round, but was able to take the Women’s Championship out by seven shots from defending champion Chantell Greaves (Dunedoo).
Sand greens player, Barry Green (Grenfell) had consistent rounds on both surfaces to take out the Men’s stableford competition with 68 points for the weekend. Grenfell locals proved to have the advantage with Virginia Drogemuller (Grenfell) winning the Women’s stableford competition with 69 points for the two rounds.
In the teams event, the Betland’s again dominated winning with Daniel Bayley and Michael Grant by the considerable margin of seven points. The teams event also gives three clubs the opportunity to win $500 toward their Junior program, with the winning clubs for 2019 being Forbes GC, Grenfell CC and Narromine GC.
The event was again a great success with locals and players from all over NSW enjoying both venues and the local hospitality that the Forbes regions offers. Golf NSW would like to again thank Forbes Shire Council for their ongoing support of the event and golf in their region.
