Crowds please Golf Australia

Golf Australia is delighted with the crowds that have been flocking to Royal Sydney for the MFS Women&aposs Australian Open, vindicating the image makeover that the women&aposs game is undergoing. After just more than 5000 spectators attended the tournament on Friday as Karrie Webb took the lead, 5753 fans have come through the gates on day three, with young, single men and children out in force. Executive Chairman of the men&aposs and women&aposs Australian Opens, Paul McNamee, has been impressed by the crowds, buoyed by the fact that the attractiveness of the ladies playing the game is being recognised and celebrated. The Open has been promoted around Australian superstar Webb and defending champion Laura Davies, as well as up-and-coming glamour girls like local Nikki Garrett and American Natalie Gulbis. McNamee also revealed that he has been pleased by feedback from some of the players that they now feel more comfortable spending time ensuring they look as good as possible while playing the game.
