Davey leads at Royal Melbourne

The Royal Melbourne Seniors Classic has commenced today in beautiful summer conditions. 108 players teed off on the famed Composite Course boasting 12 holes from the West Course and 6 holes from the East Course.

Royal Melbourne’s greens lived up to their reputation with multiple players coming off describing their experience as an “ordeal”. The combination of firm, fast and undulating provided to be a challenge for the field with only 6 players out of the field of 108 recording a score in the 70s.

John Davey from Tea Tee Gully is leading the field with an impressive score of 3 over par 75. The South Australian is one shot ahead of The National’s John Wheeler on 76, with the 2016 champion Greg Rhodes of Coomealla a further 2 shots behind on 78.

Wheeler is leading the nett section with a score of 73 off a handicap of 3. Following closely behind are a trio of players all tied on 75. Glen Kershaw (Magenta Shores NSW), Tom Salvarinov (The Vines WA) and Davey will be looking to make up ground tomorrow.
