Young guns Cameron Davis and Curtis Luck are likely headed to the secondary tour finals to regain their PGA Tour cards for next season after the regular season finished in North Carolina today.
Sydney’s Davis, 24, the 2017 Australian Open winner, had a great finish at the Wyndham Championship, closing with a 65 to finish tied-22nd.
But it was only enough to jump him by four spots on the Fedex Cup standings that determine playing futures, from 164th to 160th. Luck, who missed the cut in North Carolina, finished 175th.
Only the top 125 are guaranteed playing rights for next season.
In his first year on tour Davis made 13 cuts and earned $US477,000, but his best finish was tied-11th.
Fortunately for both, the players who finish between 125th and 200th get the option of moving on to the Korn Ferry Tour finals in 10 days’ time where they get another opportunity to play their way back on to the main tour. The top 25 earners in the three-tournament finals series go through.
Six Australians made the top 125 headed by Marc Leishman at No. 12.
Aaron Baddeley has played his way back on to the tour, finishing 112th despite beginning the season with only conditional status. Rod Pampling is headed for the senior tour.
The PGA Tour playoffs, reduced to three tournaments this year, begin with the Northern Trust at Liberty National this week.
