Day 3 Summary – Australian Interstate Series

Australian Men’s Interstate Teams Matches – Tasmania Golf Club

Defending champions New South Wales and 2011 champions Queensland will contest the championship final on Friday at the Australian Men’s Interstate Teams Matches at Tasmania Golf Club.

Queensland halved their contest with Victoria to finish on top of the table while New South Wales defeated South Australia 5-2 to finish in second place.

Queenslander and Australian Amateur champion Cameron Smith recorded the biggest winning margin of the championship so far with a 9&7 win over Victorian Nathan Holman. Smith was 9-under par when the match finished after 11 holes.

Home state Tasmania beat Western Australia 4.5-2.5 in the fifth round to finish in third place.

The Tasmanians will take on Victoria in the first consolation final for third place tomorrow.

Victoria rebounded on Day 3 to earn a share of the points in their contest with Queensland.

Western Australia will take on South Australia in the second consolation final.
The finals take place at 7.50am on Friday morning at Tasmania Golf Club.

Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches (for the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup) – Royal Hobart Golf Club

The Victorian women’s team continued their excellent form at Royal Hobart Golf Club to finish on top of the table going into Friday’s final of the Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches.

They will play defending champions Western Australia for the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup with the Western Australian side looking for a hat-trick of victories after clinching the title in 2011 and 2012.

Victoria halved their contest 3.5 points apiece with Queensland with Su-Hyun Oh and Julienne Soo both recording solid wins for Victoria while the Western Australian side defeated Tasmania 5-0 to book their place in the final.

Queensland and New South Wales will contest the first consolation final after New South Wales defeated South Australia 4-1 this morning.

South Australia and Tasmania will play off in the second consolation final.

The finals take place at 7.50am on Friday morning at Royal Hobart Golf Club.
