Australia&aposs Jason Day and Matt Kuchar of the United States will meet for a place in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship final after advancing to the last four. Day edged out Northern Ireland&aposs Graeme McDowell 1-up in a tight battle, while Kuchar overcame countryman Robert Garrigus 3&2. Hunter Mahan and Ian Poulter will contest the other semi-final. Defending champion Mahan accounted for Webb Simpson on the final green, while 2010 winner Poulter swept aside Steve Stricker with a 3&2 win at Dove Mountain. Mahan, who beat German Martin Kaymer 5&4 in the morning as the tournament made up for lost time following Wednesday&aposs freak snowstorm, made five birdies and won three holes against fellow American Simpson. “I knew it was going to be a tough one, and it was,” Mahan said. “It was really a seesaw battle. I don&apost think either one of us really gained too much momentum, it was so back and forth.” Poulter, who defeated South Africa&aposs Tim Clark 5&3 in round three earlier in the day, carded six birdies, one eagle and one bogey as he recorded his 24th victory in 33 matches. “Steve is always a tough person to beat, and he was going to play some good golf today,” Poulter said. “That&aposs exactly what he did. I managed to keep my nose in front, I guess, with a typical match play swing on the par-three third hole. “It looks like Steve is going to be going up right there, and I hole, he misses. And from then on I sort of took over and got myself in front.” The semi-finals and final are scheduled for Sunday.
