Jason Day has climbed back to the world No. 1 ranking without teeing it up this week.
Australia's Day, who was No. 1 for a week last month before losing the mantle to Jordan Spieth, is at home in Ohio resting at the end of a long season with wife Ellie, who is soon due to deliver their second child.
But because the rankings are based on a two-year rolling system, Day popped back up to No. 1 today from the comfort of his couch.
“But in all seriousness while it is a little strange to get it this way it is just proof that the hard work we put in as a team this year paid off and at the end of the day every week at the top counts and is exciting,'' he told AAP this week.
“I know things will likely change again as I continue my off-season, so I know I need to get back at it and work even harder than last year to make it easier to be at No 1 into the future.”
Day is not due to resume playing until Tiger Woods' tournament in December.
He has opted out of the Emirates Australian Open at The Australian Golf Club next month because Ellie Day is too deep into her pregnancy to travel.
