Day ready for tilt at Open

nsistent Major performer, Jason Day says he is ready to win his first at The Open Championship this week.

Since 2010 Day has teed it up in 12 Majors finishing inside the top-10 seven times with three runner-up finishes.

Finishing in the top-8 in four of his last six Major appearances, Day has firmly taken over the mantle of the best player never to have won a Major but that could all change this week. “I feel like my game is ready to win, I just have to keep putting myself there and hopefully over time it will happen,” said Day. “I would love to do better than what I am right now but I’m not putting too much pressure on myself and stressing about it.

“I think so long as I’m doing the little things right and keep working hard hopefully it will pay off overtime.” While there are areas to work on and more experience is always beneficial, Day admits he thrives when challenged which goes a long way to explaining his performance in the Majors.

“I enjoy the pressure, I enjoy having to hit the right shots at the right time, I enjoy being uncomfortable in that situation,” added Day. “In my game, obviously there are things I need to improve every year. I think it's more experience especially under the pump.”

Interestingly The Open Championship has always provided Day with this greatest challenge, it is the only Major where he is yet to record a top-10 finish. “I think showing up and preparing the best I can, it will all fall my way. I don’t think there is anything I can do other than just the best that I can,” Day concluded.
