Dengate Smashes Record at Neangar

Golf Victoria runs two Country Tournaments per year across regional Victoria in Autumn and Spring. Players will be competing for two main trophies; the Ruby McKenzie Trophy (overall best 36-Hole Gross) and the Vi Teesdale Trophy (overall best 36-Hole Nett).
This year’s Spring Country Tournament is in action with 218 players competing in the Goldfields at Belvoir Park and Neangar Park Golf Clubs. The field is split into 4 grades, with players alternating between the two courses for each round. A & B grades played at Neangar Park GC today, while C & D grades were out at Belvoir Park GC.
Jessica Dengate (Sandhurst) came in with an impressive course record breaking 1 under par 71 at Neangar Park GC (par 72), smashing the previous course record of 74 held by Helen Leech. Starting on the 6th hole, Dengate struggled initially with two over par in her first nine of play with bogies at 7 and 12. Coming in, Dengate shot a blistering three under par, including back to back birdies at 16 and 17 and an eagle on the par 5, 4th. Dengate is sitting 5 shots ahead of Sale golfer Bonnie Chignell (Handicap 6) who shot a 76 today rounding in the best Nett score at Neangar with a Nett 70.
Over at Belvoir Park GC, the leading gross score came from Sabina Rosser (Keysborough), shooting a 91on the tight par 71 layout. Julie Mortlock (Barham, handicap 28) came in with a Nett 67, one shot ahead of Rosser and Maureen Gale (Alexandra) who both had Nett 68s.
