Doherty, OBrien and Bray all champions at Kooringal

Ken O’ Brien (Rossdale) has taken out the 2014 Kooringal Senior Amateur after producing some skilful golf. O’Brien fired two rounds of 74 and 71 to be three over par for the championship.

Ken started a little shaky today with bogey’s on 3 and 4, but then went bogey free for the remaining holes to fire a second round even par. Today’s round was good enough to clinch the title by two shots from overnight leader Gordon Claney who was a little disappointed with his 74.

Christine Doherty (Woodend) won the women’s title with two fantastic stableford rounds of 36 and 43 points to win by a healthy margin of eleven points. Christine’s scores showed her liking for the course.

“First time I’ve played here and I will be back” said Doherty.

In the nett, Paul Bray (Metropolitan) continued his form from yesterday to win by eight from Denis Long. Bray mentioned that he had been struggling with form of late but had finally found his game again here at Kooringal.

Thanks to Kooringal Golf Club for hosting the event considering the event was rescheduled at late notice.

The seniors calendar continues this week with an 18 hole event at Box Hill on Friday.
