Donohoe Wins Senior Order of Merit

Congratulations to Sylvia Donohoe of Narooma Golf Club who won the 2010/11 NSW Women’s Senior Order of Merit after some superb and consistent golf throughout the year culminating with a first place finish at the last senior order of merit event for the year, the 36 hole component of the NSW Women’s Seniors event held at Cromer Golf Club on the 28th and 29th of March 2011. Donohoe finished with an astonishing 1237 senior order of merit points from only 5 events sealing victory at the NSW Senior Championship ahead of Jacqui Morgan from Monash Country Club and Liz Smyth (Royal Canberra). The senior order of merit competition runs over a 12 month period with events at numerous golf courses all over NSW and some interstate venues. The competition is for female amateur golfers over 55 years of age who have a handicap of 25 or less and are members of an affiliated golf club who have an association with Golf NSW. Points are awarded on a relative scale whereby individuals receive a greater number of points the higher up they finish on the leader board in a senior order of merit event. Whilst points are allocated mainly for performance a large proportion of these points also benefit s those who play in a greater number of these specified events. Donohoe in her presentation speech upon receiving the senior order of merit trophy was surprised to win the award considering the amount of other quality golfers who had registered into the competition. From the 5 tournaments Donohoe entered she received maximum points in 4 out of the 5 events which was quite a remarkable achievement with her worst result a runner s up place in the Australian Seniors which took place at Commonwealth Golf Club. Jacqui Morgan who finished second in the Senior Order of Merit also had a great year with wins at the Barrenjoey Week of Golf, the Avondale Bowl and Elanora Salver as some of a few highlights from a long list of achievements Morgan accomplished in the 2010/11 season. Rounding out the remaining two spots in the top 5 were Diana Johnson from Nelson Bay and Nicky Moon (Federal GC). Both ladies will look to feature prominently again in the upcoming season of the Senior Order of Merit. Full results – 2010/11 Senior Order of Merit
