Donohoe wins seventh Women’s Senior title

Sylvia Donohoe from Narooma Golf Club on NSW s south coast has won her 7th Australian Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, defeating Carmel MacDermott on the 19th hole. Donohoe faced local Toowoomba Golf Club MacDermott in the 18-hole final, and given it was MacDermott s first National Championship Final, the pressure was on Donohoe as the clear favourite going into the match. With a large crowd following the match, MacDermott was 2up after 9 holes, before Donohoe got the match back to all square after 16. Donohoe won the 17th hole, and MacDermott won the 18th hole, forcing the match down the 1st hole. With her long-time caddie Pat McCabe on the bag, Donohoe prevailed to win the match on the 19th. It was a great performance by the finalists, as both had to overcome tough semi-finals matches to advance to the Final. Donohoe defeated 2010 Champion Robyn Puckett from the USA on the 19th hole, while MacDermott beat last year s runner up, Josie Ryan from Queensland 5&4. In the original qualifying rounds, Donohoe had qualified in the number one position, whole MacDermott qualified number 11.
