Double Delight for Danielle

Danielle Vasquez has had a weekend to remember in taking out both the NSW Mixed and Women’s Foursomes Championships at Campbelltown Golf Club.

The 16-year-old combined with Darcy Boyd of Toukley on Saturday to take out the Mixed Foursomes by one shot from Tom Gill and Lucy Harris.

She backed it up on Sunday when she paired up with Darcy’s Younger sister, Annika, to take out the women’s title by two shots from Alison Gatland and Jacqui Morgan of Monash Country Club.

“I played OK. I was pretty consistent which is good."

“My driving was good today. I think we made a pretty good team,” Vasquez smiled.

Two trophies in a weekend have certainly earned the girl from Shellharbour some bragging rights.

“I’ve never had two wins in a weekend before; I’m very happy.”

The highlight of the round according to Vasquez was the last hole, where Annika faced a tricky little bunker shot.

“Annika hadn’t hit a bunker shot all day, then she hit a flop shot out to a 15 foot, and I made the putt for par,” she said.

Vasquez’ winning teammate, Annika Boyd was a little lost for words by the occasion. The 14-year-old has only been playing golf for a couple of years, and this result was by far her biggest achievement to date.

“This is my biggest ever win. It feels great. It feels awesome."

“Mum and dad are stoked. I think they’ll say they’re proud,” she beamed.

Despite her youth, Boyd was unphased by the format.

“I’ve only played club foursomes a couple of times; it’s different to regular golf.”

As for her next trip down to her home club, Boyd grinned,

“It’s going to feel a bit different going back to my home club and being a State Champion.”
