Double delight for Douglas and Hale

It’s double delight for Mudgee’s Mark Hale and Bonville’s Adele Douglas after breaking the men’s and women’s course records on the same day during round two of the Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club.

Hale was in incredible form, reeling off an impressive seven birdies in a magnificent display on his way to a six under par 65. His only blemish a lone bogey on the par three 15th.

Douglas was also impressive, with five birdies of her own in her two-over-par effort.

Hale said accuracy from the tree was the key to his magical score, saying he didn’t miss a fairway all day.

“I hit the driver really well.

“I took it on every hole and didn’t miss a fairway.

Hale added the condition of impressive Shoalhaven layout was a factor in his record-breaking round.

“The greens are schmick. As soon as I hit some putts, I knew it was going in.
“It’s a very forgiving game when you’re hitting it down the middle all day,” he smiled post round.

Douglas, likewise, was full of praise for the course, adding the key to her low score was simply to keep the ball in the fairway.

“I am carrying a bad injury and thought I would just bat it around, just keep it in the fairway, hit lots of greens in regulation and try and make a few putts.

“This is a course you need to plot your way around, and it worked out today,” she smiled.

Moving Day For Douglas

Douglas' effort also saw her vault into the lead in the women’s division, three shots in front of Killara’s Jan Crichton. Overnight leader Lucie Quilliam carded an 80 to be another shot back in third place.

Hale’s effort saw him jump from 15th into a tie for second alongside The Links Shell Cove’s Colin Mitchell.

With one round remaining, however, it will be a tough ask for the chasing pack to overhaul Port Kembla’s Chris Campbell.

The former Japanese and Australasian PGA Tour player is at six under par after carding a second three under par 68 to his opening round’s effort.

The final round will take place tomorrow, with a cut to be made later tonight.

The leading groups will begin at 12.15pm from the first hole in a shotgun start.
