Doug Bachli & Victorian Senior Handicap Trophies Awarded

The Doug Bachli Trophy and Victorian Senior Handicap Trophy are awarded to the player that accrues the highest total of points for stroke  and nett performances respectively in designated Senior events through the course of the year.

The Doug Bachli Trophy is awarded in memory of the late Doug Bachli, who in 1954 famously came from behind at Muirfield to upstage American Walker Cup player Bill Campbell, to become the first Australian to win the British Amateur Championship. Bachli represented his club, state and country in multiple events throughout his amateur career and was also named in the VGA Team of the Century in 2002. Golf Victoria express great thanks to Doug’s wife Dorothy and children Michelle, Simon, Mark and Paul for their support in naming this pinnacle trophy for Senior Golfers.

The 2013 Doug Bachli trophy winner is Michael Jackson from Yarra Yarra. Jackson is a veteran of the senior circuit, and was a part of the original group who initiated the inception of what has developed into a flourishing calendar of events for senior golfers. His outstanding performance throughout the year includes claiming 5 senior amateur titles at Keysborough, Cranbourne, Commonwealth, Coomealla and The Metropolitan. The 71 year old also took home the Doug Bachli Trophy in the 65+ category.

The 2013 Victorian Senior Handicap Trophy was won by Ignatius Duivenvoorden from Yarram, who has defended his title for the third year in a row. The 16 marker had a steady year of golf, highlighted with nett titles at Cobram-Barooga and Coomealla. The Victorian Senior Handicap 65+ Trophy was won by Graham Bone of Commonwealth, who claimed nett victories at the Yarra Courses and Hidden Valley Senior Amateur tournaments.

Congratulations to all the winners and to all players that participated this year. The 2014 program boasts an impressive list of venues, including 4 new events at Box Hill, Bendigo, Warrnambool, and Gippsland (Leongatha & Warragul).
