Drewitt leads Australians at British Amateur


The 118th British Amateur Championship has commenced and takes place from 17-22 June at Royal Cinque Ports and Prince&aposs in Kent, England. The field comprises 288 players from 29 countries. The stroke play stage of The Amateur Championship is played over the first two days of competition at both courses before the field is cut to 64 and ties. The match play stage is played over the final four days at Royal Cinque Ports. There are eleven Australians in the field, with five players coming from New South Wales. Golf Australia National Squad Member and NSW State Team Member Brett Drewitt (Long Reef) leads the Australian contingent after round 1, shooting 72 (+1) at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club to be tied 13. The leaders are currently on 70 (-2). All the leaders played at Prince s Golf Club. Callan O Reilly (Pennant Hills ) also started solidly firing a 74 (+3) at Royal Cinque Port to be T48. The remaining three NSW players Jordan Zunic (Bonnie Doon) 75 (+4) T69, Ruben Sondjaja (Bonnie Doon) 77 (+5) T 98 and Dale Brandt-Richards (Mona Vale) 81 (+10) T242 all currently sit outside the top 64 so will need to improve in round 2 to cement their positions into the match play section.
