The Yarra Courses Senior Amateur is an 18-hole senior stroke-play event rotated annually amongst the different golf courses in and around the Yarra area. Latrobe Golf Club hosted this year and the course was presented in fantastic condition for the 77 players. Play commenced at 12:30pm in overcast conditions with the sky clearing up mid round, a change welcomed by players.
It was a tight finish at the top of the leaderboard between familiar faces again this year. Heidelberg’s Gavin Duncan and Eastern’s Andrew Hansen both carded 72’s off the stick to force a count-back for first place. In the end, Duncan narrowly edged out Hansen the defending champion by the slimmest of margins to take this year’s title.
In the nett section, it was Latrobe’s own Tony Markuzov lighting up the course with a nett 65. The 19 marker made the most of the home club advantage, finishing 1 shot ahead of Green Acre’s Jerry O’Gorman (hcap 8) with a nett 66.
The next events coming up on the senior calendar will be down on the Bellarine Peninsula at the Surfcoast Senior Amateur (The Sands) on 9-10 Feb, Lonsdale Senior Amateur on 12-13 Feb and the Kooringal Senior Amateur on 17-18 February.
