Kristie Smith has recorded her best finish on the Duramed Futures Tour after tying for 2nd place at the ING New England Golf Classic in Bloomfield Connecticut, Sunday.

rnAustralia’s former number one amateur, who has missed four tournaments through injury this year, shot rounds of 66, 73 and 66 to share the runner-up spot, three strokes behind first time winner Dewi Claire Schreefel from The Netherlands. The Tour rookie played patient and steady golf to claim the title. “The first one is always special” said Schreefel. “I’m very pleased with myself and how I played for three days.”

rnSmith fired her second 4 under par 66 of the week to jump into a share of second. Smith had only one birdie on the front, but told herself to hang on. “I stayed really patient” said Smith who hit 17 greens in regulation. “I had a lot of good putts and I knew they would start going in.” Smith was also the recipient of a new 8GB Apple iPod Touch for her Sunday low round.

rnRachel Bailey fired rounds of 73, 70 & 71 to tie for 44th position while Gold Coast’s Priscilla Duffield missed the cut.
