Dylan’s delight at US Am

Aberdeen's Dylan Perry has all but qualified for next month's US Amateur Championship at The Riviera Country Club in California after finishing in a tie for first in sectional qualifying early this morning (AEST).

The 22-year-old from the Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley posted rounds of 71 and 65 for an eight-under-par 136 at the Benvenue Country Club in North Carolina.

Bad light stopped play with only a handful of players to complete their round, the closest to Perry yet to finish are Kiwi Ryan Chisnell and South Africa's Matt Saulez, a distant five shots behind with only a handful of holes left to play.

Perry, runner-up in The Amateur Championship at Royal St George's last month, was one of the early finishers and had to endure an almost two-hour wait to before realising he had locked away his place in the US Amateur which begins on August 14.

"It feels good mate. I played really solid out there this afternoon – blemish-free which is always nice," a delighted Perry said.

"I can't wait to get to Riviera and tee it up!"
