Day 2 of the Men’s Country Week Teams Matches was played in brilliant sunshine today. The Shield Division travelled east to Cranbourne, while the Plate and Bowl moved to Keysborough. It was the perfect day for spring golf, with the players welcoming the warmer walk out on course.
In the Shield it was West Gippsland who continue to go undefeated after an imposing win against ladder leaders Golf Peninsula 5.5-3.5 in this afternoons contest. With the top of the ladder still very tight, there is no certain victor at this stage. An interesting last round will be contested on the East Course at Royal Melbourne tomorrow morning.
The Plate Division has set up for an exciting final round match up tomorrow between the top two teams. Murray Darling had a tightly contested 4-3 win over Western in the morning with a bye in the afternoon. Geelong managed two impressive wins today overcoming South Gippsland & Western, both 5-2. Both teams will face off at Riversdale tomorrow with the Plate trophy and promotion to the Shield Division at stake.
East Gippsland have claimed victory in the final round of the Bowl Division, edging out Dalhousie for the title by the smallest of margins. Both teams came home with strong wins today against their opponents, however Dalhousie’s 7-0 charge over Northern was not quite enough. East Gippsland took down Kara Kara 6-1 to finish a mere 1.5 match points in front to claim the silverware and promotion into the Plate Division for 2016.
The final round for the Shield and Plate will be played tomorrow at Royal Melbourne and Riversdale respectively.
