Easte wins the Yarra Courses Senior Amateur

Gary Easte has taken out the 2013 title after carding a four-over par 75 on the tree lined layout. The Spring Valley member notched out last week’s Keysborough Senior Amateur Champion, Michael Jackson (Yarra Yarra), on a count-back this afternoon.

Since its inception in 2009, the Yarra Courses Senior Amateur has been contested at different golf clubs in and around the Yarra area, with Rosanna Golf Club hosting this year’s championship.

On a perfect summers afternoon with a modest southerly breeze, 60 players to took the picturesque course that winds its way along the iconic Yarra and Plenty rivers.

Starting his round on the 12th hole, Easte pared his opening six holes before birding the par-5 18th. While bogies at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th holes halted his initial run, the steady play he demonstrated on his outward nine was enough to ward off his competitors and claim the 2013 title.
Although narrowly defeated today, Jackson’s consistency throughout the opening events will see him leap frog Robert Burford (Devil Bend) for the lead in the 2013 Doug Bachli Trophy in chase for his second such title.
Commonwealth member, Graham Bone, was victorious in the nett section after firing a 70 nett of a handicap of 11 to take the honors by a single shot from Commonwealth compatriot, David Ellett. Also notable was Ross Liddle (Yowani) who finished in outright third on 72 nett.
The seniors shift to the Bellarine Peninsula next week for the Surfcoast Senior Amateur and the Lonsdale Senior Amateur.
