Edition 7 – ‘Best of golf in SA’ at Gawler GC

The Sunday Mail’s Ben Hook and Royal Adelaide Teaching Professional Daniel Blackwell have embarked on a two day road trip heading out of the city making their first stop at the Gawler Golf Club.

Located in Sandy Creek at the gateway to South Australia's famous Barossa Valley, the Gawler Golf Club provides the complete golfing experience with superbly manicured greens and a picturesque layout featuring several well positioned lakes.

With three holes to play, the first port of call was the downhill 114m, par 3, 4th hole.

With three bunkers around the green and a tough pin position tucked in really close on the right hand side, one of the pair with their first swing of the day, misses and finds themselves with a diabolical lie, plugged in the bunker.  Bunker tip 101: Flex your knees, club face open and steep swing, play smart. Can he get up and down? Can the other make birdie? Watch the lads play this ‘gem of a hole’.

Next was the 5th hole, the 463m par 5, which allows for a full drive off the tee but decision time with the second, either to go for home or layup. With the duo each taking different routes to the hole, who is best placed to make birdie? Will the slick greens get the better of them?

The 350m par 4, 16th hole was the final hole at Gawler to be thrown into the mix of SA’s best Golf Holes. Off the tee Hook takes driver while Blackwell hits 2 iron. It’s all about the approach here, one hits the green and the other flirts with the water on the right hand side? A terrific hole, with an awesome backdrop.
