Edition 8 – ‘Best of golf in SA’ at Tanunda Pines GC

Tanunda Pines Golf Club is a stunning 18 hole, par 72, championship golf course set in the heart of the Barossa Valley just one hour’s drive from Adelaide.

Established in 1938, this now privately owned public access course is one of Australia's finest regional woodlands golf courses.

Ben Hook from the Sunday Mail and Royal Adelaide Teaching Professional Daniel Blackwell headed out to Tanunda to survey the course, with the 11th and 17th holes now in the mix of making it into the Country 9 Best holes in SA.

The visually spectacular 11th hole is a 180m Par 3. Hitting from an elevated tee from probably the highest part of the course, it’s a pretty tough green to hit but an excellent hole to play.

Who will win this hole? It’s anyone’s guess off the tee after one goes left and the other right.

Tanunda’s 17th is a 390m Par 4 with a big dog-leg left to right. It has the classic setup with a set of bunkers you’ll need to negotiate if you are game enough to take on the right-hand corner.

Are any of the two big and powerful enough to clear the traps? Tips for this hole: be mindful of the bunkers that frame the green especially on the right-hand side and be mindful of the slope on the green. A real challenging hole.
