Eight advance in Women’s NSW Amateur

Concord Clubmates Doey Choi and Sophie Yip are set to meet in the quarter final of the NSW Women’s Amateur Championship after both players recorded wins on the first day of matchplay at Royal Canberra Golf Club.

Yip defeated Indonesia’s Ribka Vania 2 up, while Choi triumphed over the Australia Golf CLub’s Monica Johnson in a tight affair, one up.

Choi looks in deep trouble in her match when she found herself three down after 12 holes, however she fought back tenaciously with a withering bust to claim the game on the final hole.

In the other matches, top seed Stephanie Kyriacou got the letter of Malaysia’s Liyan Durisic two up, while the Australian Junior Girls champion Grace Kim was defeated Queensland’s Caitlyn Campbell- Nyman one up.

New Zealand’s Caryn Khoo defeated Lisa Edgar 4&3, and Darcy Hanged defeated Khoo’s Kiwi countrywoman 2&1.

Casey Cook got the better of the Australian Golf Club’s Amy Chu, one up, while in the match of the day, St. Michael’s Danielle Vasquez couldn’t hold on, eventually losing to Korea’s Ina Yoon on the 19th hole.
